New Work City’s Future is Here. And it’s Awesome.

heyamberrae:

SO proud and excited for Tony and New Work City!!!!

nwc2:

I’ve been waiting to write this post for a very long time.

Leasing a space for a coworking community in Manhattan is no small challenge, requiring a perfect combination of location, price, size, environment, timing, construction costs, and a landlord willing to give us a chance.

After months of hard work, pavement pounding, and late nights, I’m proud to say that, as of today, we have overcome that challenge.

Starting September 1st, New Work City’s home will be 412 Broadway, Second Floor.

Yes, the entire second floor. All ours. Just wait and see all the great things we’ll do with it.

The Location

Thanks to a Scavenger Hunt that had members of our community looking for viable spots throughout the city, we discovered a spot that was everything we needed it to be.

Just south of Canal Street and a few blocks from every major subway line, 412 Broadway’s second floor is 4,700 square feet of raw space. Wood floors and high ceilings cover the whole space, with bay windows overlooking Broadway below.

Our landlord, Lucy Jarvis, is a highly successful former film producer. We talked to her about our concept and she hooked into it immediately, doing everything she could to make a deal possible for us.

Construction

Raw space means we’ve got a lot of work to do. Our good friend and NWC member Campbell McKellar introduced us to Travis Wood, a contractor who’s been tremendously helpful and transparent in helping us determine all of our construction costs.

It’s a big job. We have to clean up the floors, tear down walls, rebuild bathrooms, install a kitchen, build rooms, install lighting, improve the electrical and data infrastructure, and more.

That stuff adds up.

Money

To make all this happen, New Work City is pulling out all the stops. It starts with you— to help us finance the new space, you can prepay your membership for the new space. You’ll lock in the current membership rate (they’re going up in the new space) and you’ll get some other goodies as well.

The new space will afford us the ability to develop all sorts of new programs, so we’re also starting to talk to people at like-minded organizations who’d be interested in partnering with us. If you’d like to talk, email us (partnership@nwcny.com) or call us at (888) 823-3494.

Better Everything

Having the freedom to design the space from the ground up means that everything gets to be done our way. That means:

  • A brilliantly designed space with a look and feel that reinforces our message
  • Room for more independent workers who will help us redefine the word work!
  • Brick walls. Wood floors. High ceilings. Ample light. OH MY!
  • Wicked, stupid fast, ridiculously solid internet
  • Beanbags! Comfy chairs! Colors, textures and designs that inspire creativity
  • Private space for important calls and meetings
  • Dedicated event space that allow for all-day, uninterrupted learning and growing
  • A badass espesso machine!
  • All the things you’ve come to expect already: Printing, 24x7 access, A/C, Refrigerator, Bike storage, Discounts from our friends, monthly terms, and more

A Community Center

The new space will allow us to host bigger and more Meetups, workshops, talks, parties, and more. Beyond that, we’ll be freed up to develop entire new programs that never could have happened anywhere else.

A Big Deal

By existing, New Work City will facilitate the generation of more new businesses. New ideas. New connections. New collaborations. New friends.

We’re talking about far more than just a place to work. We’re talking about a place where people who seeking a better, more independent life can find it.

But we’re not just talking about it anymore.
We’re doing it. Together. Now.

The future is here.
And it’s awesome.

congratulations to Tony and the NWC team - fun fundraiser has to happen soon :)
